Dr. Marilyn K. Thomas, a great visionary and entrepreneur by spirit, started her first business at age 10. Kid Power was operated by her and her siblings during the summer where they offered cleaning and babysitting services. A natural born leader, Marilyn has held many leadership roles. Her strengths lie in her ability to motivate and encourage others.
Dr. Thomas’ formal education began at Texas Woman’s University where she studied Criminal Justice and Psychology. Her education was extended to Amberton University where she obtained a Masters of Science Degree in Human Resources and Training. Dr. Thomas returned to Texas Woman’s University and earned her doctoral degree in Family Studies. A fourth degree from Southern Methodist University in Dispute Resolution was earned, and she is also a Certified Family Life Educator, a Certified Executive Coach, Certified Mediator and a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Because Dr. Thomas has always been passionate about helping others and believing that mental health is paramount to individual success, she obtained her license as a Professional Counselor and adopts the philosophy that: “Change is Inevitable, Growth is Optional!” She believes that change occurs inevitably and that only two types of people exist: Those who accept change and grow with it, and those who allow change to overthrow them. Dr. Thomas believes that every individual is powerful and they can choose to change and counseling is just one avenue that promotes that. She believes that through counseling, individuals can be helped one at a time to achieve their dreams and become the best possible versions of themselves.
